Tim Grimm and the Family Band

Grimms 950x450The son of schoolteachers and grandson of farmers, Tim Grimm is a bit of a Renaissance man in the performing arts world. An Indiana storyteller and troubadour in the spirit of Woody Guthrie, he has been likened to Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle and Jackson Browne. After spending ten years as an actor in California—performing with actors such as Harrison Ford, Marlee Maitlin, and Mark Harmon, he moved his family back to southern Indiana close to his roots. “Grimm travels the highways and byways of rural America, searching every dark corner and crevice of the beaten path to find some sort of beauty and purity. His voice is world weary but never beaten,” states David Coonce from The Herald-Times, in Bloomington, Indiana.

For the past 15 years, Grimm has blended his love for songwriting, travel, and the storytelling of acting (theatre, film and television). He has released nine solo albums since 2000, including a collaboration Amber Waves with Jason Wilber. In 2007, Grimm put together a concept cd with several of the Midwest’s finest songwriter’s—Krista Detor, Carrie Newcomer, Tom Roznowski, and Michael White. The recording, Wilderness Plots, was drawn from the short stories of noted author Scott Russell Sanders and explored the settling of the American wilderness in the Ohio River Valley region between the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Two PBS programs have explored Wilderness Plots—the first, a documentary on the story and song, and the cd Wilderness Plots, In Concert (2012). Produced by WTIU in Bloomington, IN, both productions were nominated for EMMY Awards.

His most recent recording, The Turning Point, produced the #1 song on folk radio in 2014—“King of the Folksingers”. He released the album, Heart Land in 2000, and on the strength of that recording, was named 2000’s “Best Discovery in Roots/Americana Music” by The Chicago Sun-Times. His albums Coyote’s Dream and Names, led to his being named “2004 Male Artist of The Year” by the Freeform American Roots DJs. Grimm’s 2008 roots release Holding Up the World has also received critical acclaim. In recent years, Grimm has been sharing the stage with his wife, vocalist Jan Lucas, and their two sons Conner and Jackson.
