Project ACORN

Ferdinand's Four-Season Art, Music, Environment, Wellness Program

by members of the Project ACORN committee

Time: 3:00 pm
Location: North Tent

ACORN SkylineLearn all about Project ACORN—Ferdinand's brand new series of year-round classes, workshops, field trips, films, and concerts offered by community-minded Ferdinand-area residents. ACORN, an original, homegrown creation, stands for Art, Community, Originality, Rhythm, and Nature. Its all-volunteer committee—Rock Emmert (co-chair), Deb Abell (co-chair), Kris Lasher, Doug Abell, Jill Sicard, Brooke Daunhauer, and Collin Daunhauer—strives to celebrate and build community, to create an environment where good ideas can be planted and nurtured to grow. Inspired by the mission of the one-day Ferdinand Folk Festival to promote deeper appreciation for music, art, environmental awareness, and wellness, the committee organizes (usually free) fun and educational activities for all ages for each season of the year.

The inaugural summer season has included summer-long preparations for the Folk Fest's theatrical premiere of "Ferdinand the Bull (The Musical)", featuring nine talented children from the area. Based on the classic children's book The Story of Ferdinand, the production will be performed at 12:35 and 1:35 in the lower shelterhouse. Another offering was a series of ukulele-making classes offered by Doug and Deb Abell. Over the summer, they led 31 people of all ages to create their own ukuleles! Lessons will be provided this coming fall.
